Happy Little Soles is a family-run business dedicated to providing footwear that supports the natural development of children’s feet. It was originally established by passionate barefoot advocate Kate Harrington, whose mission was to promote and expand access to barefoot shoes.

The company was founded in 2010 out of frustration with the limited and often unsuitable children’s footwear available on the high street. Kate discovered barefoot shoes when her younger daughter, Keala, struggled with balance and conventional footwear. A series of chance conversations led her to Happy Little Soles, which ultimately provided the solution to Keala’s balance issues.

As Kate delved deeper into research, she became increasingly convinced of the benefits of barefoot shoes and was surprised by their lack of availability. Her years of practicing yoga had already taught her the importance of posture, alignment, and the crucial role feet play in maintaining core stability. However, she soon realised that many of the exercises she had been doing were simply trying to restore the flexibility and strength that traditional shoes had diminished. That was her lightbulb moment! Keala stopped stumbling, the family fully embraced barefoot shoes, and Kate took the reins of Happy Little Soles.
